About Me:

Using smart technology to help more people get online can have lots of benefits to them, particularly during COVID-19. People who can use the internet can stay connected with friends and family, get news updates and find answers to questions. Generally, being able to use the internet can improve peoples lives. Smart speakers are a great way to do this for older adults who haven’t grown up using computers or smartphones and might struggle more with other types of technology.

My Typical Day:
No two days look the same for me! Some days I work from home, other days I’m in the office. I spend a lot of time reading research, analysing data I’ve gathered, writing up my findings and leading some teaching sessions.

No two working days look the same for me!
Mondays, Tuesday and Fridays, I normally work from home. I take my puppy for a walk, make a cup of coffee and settle down at my desk by 9am. I spend the morning answering emails, reading some papers and learning to program in R. I break for lunch at about midday and normally eat with my partner and have a catch-up about our mornings while watching tv. At 1, I head back to my desk. I normally have more meetings in the afternoons and try to get work done in between. From 4pm-6pm I tutor GCSE and A-level students online. After, I love cooking and always try to make something exciting for dinner (although some Fridays I do cave in and order take-out!).On Wednesdays and Thursdays, I work from the office because I lead teaching for master’s students at my university. My teaching starts at 9am so I need to be out of the house by 8am (that involves a very early start for me!). I’m finished teaching by 11am when I head over to my office and settle into the rest of my work. I answer emails, work on my research project and make too many trips to the kitchen for cups of tea. I normally leave the office about 5pm and am home to cook dinner by 6.
